about blk irl®
BLK IRL® is a dynamic creative ecosystem of thoughtfully produced educational media and experiences, cultivated by cultural anthropologist Anuli Akanegbu, PhD. Rooted in a commitment to connecting our shared histories with contemporary life and creative work, BLK IRL® explores the intersection of race, labor, and creativity through a multidimensional lens. At the core of this ecosystem is the BLK IRL Podcast, available on all major streaming platforms, which brings these themes to life through compelling storytelling and insightful dialogue. Complementing the podcast is the B-Side blog. Named for the lesser-heard side of a vinyl record, the B-Side blog offers nuanced reflections on often overlooked aspects of Black cultural life and creative work. BLK IRL® also extends into the digital space with a worker-centered weekly resource series on Instagram Stories, regularly sharing timely news, job listings, and opportunities for workers in creative and cultural industries. Together, these platforms create a thought-provoking space for critical engagement, curiosity, and connection that centers the lived experiences and labor of Black people.
BLK IRL® is cultivated by Anuli Akanegbu, Phd., an Atlanta-based researcher, writer, and educator.
